Over the holiday I had a brief discussion with some family members about the dangers of deep fakes, especially false images of war that could mislead people and start actual wars. That's probably what scares me the most, with the mind-reading being a very close second.
The greatest thing I've seen is how well the more advanced models can write code for you. It's a time saver and I'm not worried it's going to replace human programmer jobs since everything it outputs still needs to be reviewed and adjusted by a real person.
