He probably has a thick drawl and the noise of the machinery would have made it impossible anyway. When the snow fairy wouldn't stop buzzing around him, he got annoyed and said "bite me" out of anger, which she took literally and obliged. "Dangerous toys are fun, but you could get hurt!"
