There's a TON of fan art and music remixes based on the Touhou series.
I don't play the games but the different fan works are really entertaining 
Wasn't there a full-blown fan animation that looked OVA quality?

I think so. Maybe a few, by now.
Touhou's definitely got a huge fan following, and it's easy to enjoy it without ever touching the games.
Interestingly, the games are in part a way for their creator to compose game music. Because he likes to do that. He's pretty good at it, too. |
