Thread RSS Why a new physics theory could rewrite the textbooks

There might be, but it'd likely be a QCD thing and not a EM thing. Bottom line is the...ah, colorful naming of things has caused some confusion. It's just terminology. Quarks do have an electric charge (in either 1/3 or 2/3 of the charge of an electron), which is probably part of why there need to be new terms associated with the properties describing their interactions with gulons (and though coupling with gluons, other quarks).

This sounds kind of like a connection to string theory. Like Vega7285 and Doitsujin said, "color" depicts electromagnetic frequencies (specifically terahertz radiation, a.k.a. visible light (a subset of the aforementioned band) although if you're getting into string theory, the strong nuclear force could potentially be considered a manifestation of string vibrations although that's highly speculative.

Its also the case that not all forces act on all particles, Neutrinos do not interact at all with electromagneticm (hence are literally 'neutral'), but can interact through gravity and through the weak nuclear interaction force (which for example drives/operates radioactivity).

Good point there and it's one of the potential problems with string theory.

While we're posting links to ArXiv, this might be of interest:
