Messages from around the world are to be beamed into space at the speed of light as part of a cultural project to create a celestial time capsule.

It's a really cool idea, but...

What if we receive a message back, and it reads:

Shhh. Be quiet... or they will hear you...

Problem is that we've been sending messages passively out into space ever since radio was invented. No responses (that we know).

Maybe there's too much distance for our radio transmits to get far enough before we're all gone anyway.

I think Stephen Hawking advised against an active attempt to make contact with extra-terrestrials.

Really, I'd agree that the distances are such that we'd likely not need to worry.
