I just use plenty of soap and water. It seems to do the trick.
Don't want bad stuff about you online? Don't post it in the first place. Lots of sites scrape up content from social networks and archive it forever, for all to see. The Internet Archive also take snapshots of most web sites.
Once it's out there, it's likely out there for good.
