A little-known device is shaking conventional wisdom for reviving people who suffer sudden cardiac arrest: People may be able to go much longer without a pulse than the 20 minutes previously believed.

A while back I read something about inducing hypothermia also helping preserve the brain during and right after heart attacks.

Yes but the process of freezing and thawing damages cells, too, which is what they're trying to avoid

Is standard CPR still to do the chest compressions and the mouth-to-mouth?

The mouth-to-mouth is no longer recommended but the chest compressions, yes.
