In the interest of increasing image quality for the web comics, I've debated changing from JPEG to PNG format.
The drawback of PNG is that the file size will be significantly larger. I'm not so sure that's going to work very well for anyone still on dial-up or a slow connection.
Your thoughts?

PNG is definitely a superior image format although I get the concerns about bandwidth.
Is anyone still on dial-up these days?

I am Unforunately, everything loads slowly for me regardless.
I say if it helps the image quality and I have to wait a little longer (but not all day), go for it. I wouldn't want anything that's impossible to load, having said that.
Just how much bigger file size / longer download is it?

PNG would effectively increase the file size of the web comics by about 5x per image, roughly.

Just five times? I could actually live with that if it makes the text easier to read.
