They can be common anywhere if you look for them hard enough. I've learned that through LOTS of experience!

I found it when hunting for new web comics to read a couple years ago. I started reading Obfuscated Trace Echo and got through part of 2214 but I also started following for the music.

It doesn't matter if the glass is half empty or half full. There's clearly enough room for more wine.

I found this site back in 2003 through a web comics listing site (I think it was Buzz comics) and started out reading 2214 before joining the forums.

I know it was while browsing web comics but I don't remember anything specific. 2214 just kind of came up while surfing comics one day.
