Thread RSS Image file format

I've been experimenting lately with the image file format for the web comics.

In the past, before 2214 made the switch to color, I used GIF format exclusively.

After the move to color, I used JPEG. Both are relatively efficient file formats and generally good for lower bandwidth Internet connections but they do compromise on image quality.

So, I'm wondering: Would it be okay if I switched to using PNG in the future? The file sizes are larger but it's a losslss compression format which means the quality will not be compromised. Does everyone more or less have a relatively high speed Internet connection or would this slow down the site too much?

TBH I'm on pretty fast Internet nowadays so I'd probably not notice much of a difference.

My connections pretty slow. Some sites load very slowly, especially if they have lots of images.

Having said that, it's probably okay to upgrade to the better format. I really don't mind waiting a little longer for a much better quality web comic experience. wink

Just don't make the file sizes HUGE, okay?

It should be okay. I'm not an expert on graphics but PNG images do look a lot better in my experience.

Who here's still on dial-up?

Not on dial-up here but a slower tier of DSL. The telephone office is some distance away so what I have is actually considered really good for being in a rural area.

Still sucks a lot of the time. YouTube has a lot of trouble most days.
