Personally I don't care if people use old characters. It might be a problem if, for some reason, they conflict with the setting but if we're doing a futuristic setting with space stations and advanced technology, I wouldn't imagine that being the case.
As of right now we don't have anything organized, so it's completely open to suggestions. 73's, KD8FUD
