That WEF video should sound alarm bells all over the world. True to form, they always float their most controversial ideas like that and then beg at the end "we don't want this seen as bad".

Hey, WEF, you're crazy if you think the average person wants this. Maybe really greedy bosses or total control freaks want it, but if you're trying to get the regular joes on board, your approach frankly sucks.

For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring. -- Carl Sagan

Some really amazing AI stuff has come out over the past year and I hope to see it continue to evolve. Along with that, there needs to be more push back against abusive uses of AI.

Over the holiday I had a brief discussion with some family members about the dangers of deep fakes, especially false images of war that could mislead people and start actual wars. That's probably what scares me the most, with the mind-reading being a very close second.

The greatest thing I've seen is how well the more advanced models can write code for you. It's a time saver and I'm not worried it's going to replace human programmer jobs since everything it outputs still needs to be reviewed and adjusted by a real person.

It's turning out not to be so great for me. I'm already being replaced by AI for a lot of coding tasks. While I still have work doing the overall application architecture for projects, I've been instructed by one of my main clients to use ChatGPT for basic coding. That works great for building simple functions but still requires careful review and testing, for now.

Eventually, LLMs will be capable of assembling multiple files worth of code and building entire MVC frameworks, complete with the features requested in the AI prompts. It is seriously only a matter of time before the work that I do is completely replaced by automation.

It is strange how the commonly held belief used to be that automation would replace manual labor first. Now it's replacing the desk jobs instead and it looks like most of the jobs in the future will be in the service industry doing manual labor. I'm actually surprised that fast food preparation and janitorial work hasn't been fully automated by now. Fast food could be prepared and served using what's essentially a more complex version of a vending machine while cleaning could be done using specialized robots similar to a more industrial variation of a Roomba. It's probably only a matter of time for that, too.

Self-driving cars will eventually be perfected (even though they aren't too great just yet). While it's hard to make a prediction, maybe 30 or 40 years from now most things will be automated and there won't be too many jobs left for humans. How will the economy work under those circumstances?
